
lathes are generally limited only by their maximum size, but not by the minimum. Keep in mind that a larger lathe will generally do the same small work to extremely fine tolerances that a mini-lathe will. They also, IIRC, do not come with any screw cutting capability and require an expensive accessory (lead screw assembly) to cut threads. They are highly respected by modelmakers, but they do not have near the muscle or size to accomplish the work you want to do.

Both the Sherline and the Taig are excellent "mini-lathes." (As is the no longer made Unimat. you're way short of the mark with the size of lathe you are considering.
